File Links
Creating links to files in your LowGenius/DNN Text/HTML module is a fairly straightforward process. In summary: highlight the text to be linked (or the link to be changed), click the 'link" button, and follow the prompts.
Step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Open the page containing the module you wish to edit (or add a new Text/HTML module), and select the "edit text" link that appears below the module. If this link does not appear, you will need to log in to your site first.
Step 2: Highlight the text that will be linked, or the existing linked text you wish to change (as in the BLUE box in the first image below).
Step 3: Click the "Link" button in the text editor (in the RED box in the first image below; note that depending on the 'skin' or graphical style of your site, this link may appear slightly different)

Step 4: In the dialogue window that appears, click "Browse Server." This will cause a new window to pop up.

Step 5: The new window will present you with a range of options, as seen below. First, select the "File" radio (round) button.

Step 6: When you select "File," after a moment the area where you see "Location: (Enter the address of the link)" above will change to look like the following image:

Step 7: If the file is already uploaded to your site, you will be able to find it using the drop-down lists as seen above (note that if the file is in a sub-folder, you will have to select that sub-folder from the 'File Location; drop-down before the file you want will appear in the 'File Name' dropdown.) If you want to upload a new file (or replace an old one), click the "Upload New File" link that is highlighted as white-on-blue in the above image.
Step 8 (optional): If you are uploading a file, the dialogue will change slightly again, as seen below. First, click the "Browse" button. This will open your standard "Open File" browser on your local computer, which you can use to locate and select the file you wish to upload. Once you have selected the file, use the "Upload Selected File" link that appears directly below the "Browse" field where the path and name of the file on your local machine will now be displayed.

Step 9: The dialogue should now auto-select the file you just uploaded, but if it doesn't you can selected it as in step 7 below. If you experience an error uploading the new file, you may need to rename it first if it is the same name as an existing file on the server. This is often as easy as adding a "-a" or "-002" or similar incremented 'version' letters/numbers to the file name (to the LEFT of the extension - for instance, 'mypicture.jpg' might be renamed 'mypicture-002.jpg', not 'mypicture.jpg-002')
Step 10: Click the "Use Selected Link" link at the bottom-left of the dialogue window. This will insert the file information into the earlier dialogue seen below Step 4 above. Click "OK" in that dialogue, and your link is created!
